Father of Brain-Damaged Baby Held on $50,000 Bail
Doctors said the injuries to the 12-week-old, prematurely born daughter of Shaun Sicsico were consistent with abuse, reports the Martha's Vineyard Times. The baby suffered severe brain damage and was on life support at Children's Hospital.
Shaun Sicsico, accused of inflicting severe brain damage on his infant daughter, was returned to jail after his pretrial hearing Thursday and is due back in court Aug. 9, reports the Martha's Vineyard Times.
Doctors at Children's Hospital in Boston, where the 12-week-old, prematurely-born baby was airlifted last weekend and placed on life support, said the infant's extensive injuries were consistent with abuse, the Times reports.
Sicsico is charged with assault and battery on a child with substantial injury and is being held on $50,000 bail, according to court documents.
"Further charges may follow on worsening of victim's condition, which ... is grim according to medical staff at Children's Hospital," wrote detective Nicholas Curelli in a preliminary report filed in Edgartown District Court.
