3 Underage Women Arrested at Oak Bluffs Bar

They ordered some drinks and got handcuffs instead. Arrest information does not indicate convictions.

Three young women, aged 19 and 20, were arrested last month on charges of attempting to procure alcohol under the age of 21 and using a false liquor ID card, according to Oak Bluffs police.

The three minors, a 20-year-old from Raynham, a 19-year-old from Bridgewater and a 20-year-old from Bridgewater, had ordered drinks at the Sand Bar & Grill on Oak Bluffs Harbor at around 7:30 p.m. June 22.

But instead of serving them, the bar manager confiscated their identification cards and called police.

According to a police report of the incident, on file at Edgartown District Court, the manager "believed they were fake ID’s because the picture ID of one of the three females did not match up with her physical appearance. He felt the other two identification cards were fake because they did not scan in the restaurant’s ID card reading machine."

After police arrived minutes later, the report continues:

"The three females first stated that the three identification cards were authentic. The three females also said they were carrying no other identification cards bearing their true name. Sgt. Marchand told the three females that if they told the truth and were compliant, the consequences would be less severe than if they lied. The three subjects lied to Sgt. Marchand on multiple occasions before admitting the ID’s were fake, and that two of them were holding their true ID cards in their purses."

The three were handcuffed and booked. Minors charged with liquor and ID violations generally lose their driving licenses for 180 days and are usually eligible for a diversion program, after the successful completion of which the charges can be wiped from their records.
