Do You Miss WMVY on the Radio?

Local programming is gone from 92.7 FM, replaced by a public radio feed from Boston. Do you miss the music, Island news and ferry updates? What are you listening to now?

As soon as I got to the Vineyard on Friday, I tuned my car radio to 92.7 FM so I could hear WMVY.

It turned out that was my last chance to listen to our Island station on the radio: At midnight, WBUR took possession of the radio frequency it had purchased late last year.

Now, when I turn on 92.7 FM, I get WBUR - which was fund-raising when I tuned in yesterday.

Fortunately for WMVY's worldwide internet audience, the station continues its musical format online at mvyradio.com.

But I miss the ability to spin my radio dial to a place where the music is ever-changing and the voices are local.

Folks on Facebook tend to agree:

"I really miss it, especially during the storm. We would have had up to date local weather reports. That was the first thing I thought when the storm hit and I turned the radio on to hear 'talk,'" posted Betty Burton.

So what do we listen to in the car now? I haven't lived in this area for more than 15 years and would welcome any and all suggestions for AM or FM stations I can check out while driving around on the Island.

Do you miss WMVY in the car, too? What have you found to replace it? What are the other good radio stations around here? Please tell me in the comments below.
