Former Treasure Diver, 89, Lived '9 Lives' and Retired to Martha's Vineyard

John Potter, 89, a former treasure diver who helped locate the ship Atocha in Florida and authored a memoir titled "My First Nine Lives," died unexpectedly Jan. 4, reports the Vineyard Gazette.

The Vineyard Gazette has reported the death on Jan. 4 of John Potter, 89, of East Chop.

Potter, a businessman who lived and worked in China in his youth, was also a treasure diver who helped locate the ship Atocha near Key West and later authored a memoir titled "My First Nine Lives," according to the Gazette, which reports that a celebration of his life will be organized later this year.
