Hundreds Gather At Edgartown Lighthouse Children's Memorial

An estimated 200 people gathered Saturday afternoon at the Edgartown Lighthouse Children's Memorial for the annual Ceremony of Remembrance hosted by the Martha's Vineyard Museum.

Martha's Vineyard native Rick Harrington came up with the idea for the Children's Memorial after his teenage son was killed in a car accident in 1995.
The memorial was dedicated in 2001 with more than 100 names on cobblestones.
Saturday's ceremony, held under a brilliantly blue September sky as yachts under sail passed in and out of Edgartown Harbor, included inspirational songs and a prayer.
Several families brought or picked flowers and beach shells to arrange around the cobblestones of their loved lost children.
Did you attend the ceremony Saturday afternoon? What child do you honor at the lighthouse memorial? Tell us in the comments.
