Funeral Announcements: Dick Brown, 97, Founded Edgartown Dairy Queen

The former owner of the original Edgartown Dairy Queen and a longtime Island volunteer, Richard C. Brown will be remembered with a service at the Edgartown United Methodist Church, Saturday, Dec. 7 at 11 a.m.

Family and friends will gather Saturday to remember Richard C. "Dick" Brown of Oak Bluffs, who passed away Nov. 27 at 97.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Dec. 7 at the Edgartown United Methodist Church for this longtime Island resident and volunteer.

Brown was a maritime engineer who, after many years working on steamships, built and opened the original Edgartown Dairy Queen in the late 1960s, according to his obituary.

He was also a devoted baseball fan who umpired Little League games on the Vineyard for more than 50 years, and a Scoutmaster who helped revive the Island's Boy Scout Troop.
