Five Things You Need to Know Today: February 18

Today there is an NAACP dinner, a Cub Scout breakfast at Artcliff and a Mardi Gras celebration in Edgartown

1. Join the Cub Scout Breakfast at the Artcliff this morning and learn more about Scouting on Martha’s Vineyard. Donations only. 9 am. For more information, call 508.560.2683

2. The Boys & Girls Club has their 15th Annual 20 Miler Road Race today beginning at 11 am. The starting line is at the Vineyard Haven Steamship Authority and the finish is at the Oak Bluffs School. Runners may register as late as the morning of the race, if space is still available. Participation is limited to 500. 3. The Martha’s Vineyard chapter of the NAACP is having a Martin Luther King Jr. Membership and Awards Dinner tonight at the Grill on Main in Edgartown. Dinner features a conversation on civil rights with Lucy Hackney, Rose Styron, and Betty Rawlins. Tickets are $80 and include a membership to the MVNAACP. All are welcome. 5:30 pm. 4. It’s Teen Night at the YMCA, tonight. This program is geared for high school aged teens and offers XBOX, a pool table, Wii, computers and much more. 6 pm – 11 pm.  For more information please call 508-606-7171.

5. Celebrate Mardi Gras with a Down-Island Jambalaya Dinner with New Orlean's King Cake at the Parish Hall adjacent to the Federated Church, in Edgartown. There will be Music, Beads, Masks, 10 FANTASTIC Draw Prizes and a Best Costume Door Prize.
