SHARKS LOSE WILD ONE IN EXTRA INNINGS TO ROX

The Martha's Vineyard Sharks blew a 7-run lead going into the 9th inning and the visiting Brockton Rox were able to get the win after a 4 hour game that finished in the 12th inning. Sharks starter John Cook (Amherst) went 6 solid innings, but was unable to to get a win to show for it. Rox starter Joe Fasano (NJIT) was roughed up on the day, allowing 5 runs through 4 innings. Both pitchers cruised through the first 3 innings, but the Sharks were able to explode for 5 runs in the bottom of the 4th. RBIs from Jack Roberts (Williams), Ryan Siegel (Mercyhurst), and Dylan Tice (IUP) highlighted the inning and put the Sharks up 5-0. The Rox were able to chip away with 3 runs over the next 2 innings, but the Sharks put up another 5 spot in the bottom of the 6th. Eric Brenk (Wofford), Donnie Cimino (Wesleyan), Nik Campero (UMASS), and Brett Holmgren (Endicott) all drove in runs, which put the Sharks up 10-3

This lead would hold until the 9th inning, when Brockton rallied with 7 runs that pushed the games into extra innings. Mike McFerran (SUNY Oneonta) allowed a 3-run homer to Mitch Elliott (Xavier) and loaded the bases with Rox before being replaced  by Matt Calamoneri (Scranton). Calamoneri allowed 4 more runs to Rox batters, while put the score even at 10-10. The Sharks were unable to score in the bottom of the 9th and the game moved into extras.

In the 12th inning, the wheels came off the bus for the Sharks and the Rox were able to score 8 runs that put the game out of reach. A valiant effort was put forth by both teams, but the Rox were able to win 18-10 in 12 innings. At the moment, the Sharks remain a 1/2 game ahead of the Silver Knights in the Futures League. Martha's Vineyard returns to action Saturday (7/20) against the Pittsfield Suns. First pitch is scheduled for 7 pm.
