The Martha's Vineyard Sharks capped off a great summer with their first Futures League title and almost all the awards the league could offer. However, it was not always a walk in the park for the Sharks.
An early season 13-2 loss to the Dirt Dawgs could easily have thrown the Sharks into a losing streak, but they were able to rebound and defeat the Titans the following game. Another brutal loss came at the hands of the Brockton Rox, when the Sharks gave up a 7 run lead in the top of the 9th inning and eventually lost 18-10 in the 12th inning. Through a multitude of injuries to key players and a few tough losses, the Sharks were able to pull through and take the top spot in the Futures League playoffs and an eventual league championship.
By the end of the season, the Sharks were able to accumulate many records and league awards. This was the most wins by a Sharks team, by an individual pitcher (Bob Carbaugh), and wins in a row. The league MVP (Dylan Tice), batting champ (Ryan Siegel), pitcher of the year (Bob Carbaugh), and manager of the year (Mike Miller) all went to Sharks.

An all-around terrific summer was capped off by a sweep of the Nashua Silver Knights in the league championship to break the streak for the Silver Knights and get their first league title. Congratulations to all the Sharks and everyone who was a part of this title! Looking forward to another winning summer on the Vineyard for 2014!!
