What's Open, Closed on Martha's Vineyard This Christmas?

Most Island businesses are closed Christmas Day and many have shorter hours Christmas Eve.

Christmas Eve, Dec. 24 (Tuesday): Many businesses are open shorter hours today, including

  • Stop & Shop Pharmacy, Edgartown: 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Stop & Shop Supermarkets: closing 6 p.m.
  • Vineyard Cash & Carry: closed 2 p.m.
Christmas Day, Dec. 25 (Wednesday)
  • Municipal, state, federal offices and banks: Closed.
  • Retail stores and supermarkets: Most are closed. Vineyard Grocer is open 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Liquor stores: Closed. 
  • Post offices: Closed, no mail delivery.
  • UPS: Will be back on the job Thursday.
  • Convenience stores: Open at owner's discretion.  
  • Bars and restaurants: Open at owner's discretion; Edgartown's Harbor View Hotel is serving a Christmas Day feast at 6 p.m. $57 adults, children's menu available: 508-627-3761
  • Libraries: Closed.
  • YMCA: Closed, reopening Thursday at 8 a.m.
  • Mansion House Health Club: Open.
  • Stock market: Closed.
  • Edgartown Cinemas: Open, showing "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" at 3:45 p.m. and 7 p.m. 
  • Martha's Vineyard Film Center: No screenings scheduled.
  • Vineyard Transit Agency: No buses.
  • Steamship Authority: Friday schedule: Last boat from Vineyard Haven 8:30 p.m., last boat from Woods Hole 9:45 p.m.

Most businesses will reopen Thursday, Dec. 26.
