SATURDAY, JANUARY 28th 

Habitat for Humanity

Saturday is a Volunteer Build Day at the Habitat for Humanity of Martha's Vineyard Build Site. They are building a FirstDay Cottage which is a system of construction which requires almost no carpentry experience. Just show up with a willingness to learn, sign-in with the construction supervisor and help make a positive difference in the lives of others. Please dress appropriate to weather conditions and construction work. Students ages 14-16 may volunteer accompanied by parent or guardian and 16-18 may volunteer independently with parent or guardian’s written permission. Clifford The Big Red Dog

Chili Festival

WMVY's 26th annual Big Chili Contest begins at 11:00 am on Saturday at the in Oak Bluffs. One of the Island's most loved off-season events, the Chili Contest supports the Red Stocking Fund. For more information, visit mvyradio.com

Mill Brook Restoration

Saturday at 3:30pm the , Michael Hopper from the will be giving a talk about dam removal projects and funding sources and grants for such projects. Michael Hopper is the president of the Sea Run Brook Trout Coalition (www.searunbrookie.org), a nonprofit dedicated to improving habitat for native brook trout in the Northeast. His group has been involved with two restoration projects in Massachusetts; Red Brook in Wareham, and Eel River in Plymouth. Hopper has worked as a commercial fisherman, but has now made stream restoration for sea run brook trout (also known as salters) his main work. His library presentation will focus on the Mill Brook, its native fish population, possibilities for stream restoration at the site of the Mill Pond, and the funding opportunities for projects like these. He will have photos of the projects that they have worked on, and the results of those efforts. The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

Foam Roller Workshop

Griffin Hughes will teach her Foam Roller Workshop at the Saturday at 4 pm. The class will detail how the use of this simple tool can ease muscle and joint pain, increase blood flow and massage connective tissue. “Foam Roller exercises have become incredibly popular, it’s like a self-massage that you can do anytime, anywhere,” Brenda Wallis, health club fitness director said. The 1 ½ hour class is $20 for health club members, $35 for non-members, including a take-home foam roller. Participants can also bring their own rollers and take the class for only $10. Pasta Dinner for Shark Week

Join in on the Sunday Projects from 1 pm - 2 pm at the on Sunday. Open to adults and children ages 8 and up. Some of the projects may include changing animals bedding, mucking stalls, stacking hay, organizing garden sheds, giving animals new bedding, moving and stacking hay, organizing garden sheds and more fencing. North Shore Walk

Opera on Sundays

Opera on Sundays at the in Vineyard Haven returns Sunday with "The Merry Widow" at 1 pm. “The Merry Widow,” known as The Queen of Operettas, is a comedy about a wealthy young widow looking for a new husband.
