Vineyard Men Stand in Support of Women's Rights

Last Saturday, over 25 Island men took to the wall between Vineyard Haven and Oak Bluffs to . The men-against domestic violence group called Vineyard-Men for Abuse Prevention (V-MAP) created the event to attract attention to the work they are doing on the Island.

The event created by V-MAP and CONNECT to end violence (CONNECT), a program of Martha’s Vineyard Community Services, asked Island men to take stand on the sea wall holding a sign stating who they are standing for. On July 28th, participants held posters with the names of the women they were standing for. It was an extremely symbolic and moving gesture. Even as the last people were standing on the wall, dozens of cars drove by honking their horns and waving out the windows.
