SOUND OFF: Dogs Dining Al Fresco?

Should canines be allowed on restaurant patios?

It's summer, the evening air is enjoyable and it's dinner time. You pick up your keys and decide to drive to a restaurant for dinner to enjoy the weather so you don't have to turn on the oven. Barnstable

But wait. Fido has been home all day without you and wants to tag along.

Should he be allowed to join you for a night of al fresco dining?

According to Boston.com, some Salem restaurants are going to say yes. City officials said they are allowing restaurants to apply for variances that would allow diners to bring their dogs with them. According to Boston.com, the Massachusetts food code has not allowed dogs at eateries since the 1990s.

What do you think? Should dogs be allowed? Would you bring your pooch? Sound off in the comments.

Why not IN restaurants? Europeans don't seem to have a problem with it! They're no worse than the average kid and would probably create much less controversy if asked to leave because of a behavior problem. While visiting North Conway this summer, it was too hot to leave the dog in the car. While I was standing in a speck of shade with him, a sporting goods store employee actually came out and invited him in and gave him a drink. Most refreshing, the drink AND the attitude.

I don't own a dog, but wouldn't mind a well behaved pet lying down near owners table outside. I however don't want to sit next to them, as allergic and I am worried about flying pet hair in food.

I'm with Laura! Dogs make life better, anywhere, anytime. It's the humans that create all the problems!

Dogs are unsanitary and are banned by the health department. I don't believe I should have to watch a dog lick his butt, while I pay to eat. and if a sever with a tray loaded with food steps on the dogs tail he's going to bite and you and the restaurant will be sued. Please bring your nasty children, but leave that sweet loveable animal home.
