Reflections: Celebrating our MVAA Heritage

Celebrating our 60th Anniversary!

Paying homage to our founding artists, pieces from the permanent collection will be exhibited alongside current artist members' works. Visitors will see that today’s MVAA artists are still drawing inspiration from the Vineyard in similar ways as yesterday’s founders.

Incorporated in

1954, the Martha’s Vineyard Art Association opened for the benefit of the

Island community; “to increase facilities of art education, create interest in

the arts, make an art center for the whole island, establish a permanent

collection, and preserve an old landmark.”

Over the years,

the MVAA has created a Permanent Collection of over 100 paintings by many

of the Island’s most accomplished artists. The 2014 season

marks the association’s 60th anniversary.
