Pathways Artistic Director Marianne Goldberg directs an enhanced performance of To Inhabit Together/UNFURLING, a Collaborative Arts Ensemble Event with Oceans choreography, sound/music, poetry, digital projection, motion sensors, ocean buoy bells, and 3D Oceans liquid space projections across the Pathways Living Room Gallery.
With Jesse Keller, Dean Rosenthal, William Waterway, Richard Skidmore, Nick Fornier, and Jon Baer.
This expanded Ensemble collaboration performance of To Inhabit Together / UNFURLING explores experiences of inhabiting ocean aqua-terrestrial terrain at cliff’s edge, with changing circumstance of wind, bluff, wave, flight, sand and extraordinary light.
The dance, UNFURLING, choreographed by Goldberg and performed by Jesse Keller, with William Waterway on flutes, incorporates a backdrop of Goldberg’s OceA Landscape Photography ~ illuminating the choreography as a horizon beyond the dancing.
To transform the entire gallery into a liquid oceans terrain of interior shoreline, Goldberg invites exploration of multiple senses. Digital artist Jon Baer is invited to project moving coastal imagery across the architecture, filling pillars and ceilings with videography of oceans beach terrain on Martha’s Vineyard.

A sound-scape for the evening, conceived by Goldberg and realized by composerr Dean Rosenthal and sculptor/engineer Nick Fornier, highlights soundings of oceans buoy bells, activated by motion sensors as audience walk and greet one another, or played as a musical ensemble.
Richard Skidmore contributes to the collaborative project for a second year with time-lapse imagery of space, cresting waves, and flowers blossoming across suspended interior fabric skies. Pathways Team Garrett James, Scott Crawford, and Keren Tonnesen contribute skills in light, projection and fabric transformation~~wrapping and rippling coral silk as if spinnaker or moving water across the Pathways open dance surface.
A Community Conversation on Oceans Conservation and Stewardship, with a joint drawing of a Map of Treasured Island Coastal Places.
Many communities in beautiful locations have successfully established ocean sanctuaries that protect and enliven their coastal areas. Here on island multiple initiatives honor treasured land areas, commissions secure roadway vistas and towns provide guidelines for historical buildings, while local organizations shelter pivotal water resources ~ yet Oceans on Martha’s Vineyard do not yet enjoy a similar protection. An excerpt from the award-winning film series, Ocean Frontiers, provides inspiration by focusing on a marine sanctuary established in the Florida Keys.
