Community Herbalist Certification Course

Session 1 of the 3-week, 330-hour training intensive The Heritage & Healing Herbal School is Monday June 23 - Tuesday July 1, excluding the weekend. (Session 2 options begin Wedneday July 2 or Wednesday September 17, including the weekend). This is a wonderful training program for those enamored with herbs and interested in learning the botany, history, culture, pharmacology & chemistry, and use of medicinal herbs.

In this intensive, you will be trained in the following:

  • The botany and chemistry of medicinal herbs (with a focus on Western herbalism and an introduction to Ayurvedic, Eastern and other herbs);
  • Gardening and harvest of key medicinal herbs; wildcrafting ethics, identification and harvest of wild herbs;
  • How to process fresh and dried herbs into a wide variety of herbal remedies, including foods, wines, tinctures, salves, liniments, syrups, teas/infusions/decoctions, yogurts, milks, vinegars, powders, salts, compresses/fomentations, poultices, and more;
  • How herbs are used for healing the body based on body system, including the digestive, cardiovascular, respiratory, urinary, mental, skin, reproductive and other systems, as well as specific pharmacology and chemistry and how these interact with human anatomy;
  • The folklore and history of the world's cultures and many of the women instrumental in advancing herbal science;
  • and much more. All in a supportive, enjoyable atmosphere of trust and companionship.
This 3-week intensive includes tutoring in The Heritage & Healing Herbal Studies Program, a written curriculum specially designed for the herbalist, and it includes hands-on training in making and processing all the remedies in the 19 Lesson curriculum. Together we'll go through the Lessons and complete the study all the while surrounded by healing medicinal plants in their native habitat. Students complete a couple of lessons prior to arriving to finish the 330-hour course. School includes numerous field trips, herb walks, beach excursions, woodland meanderings, and special evening activities. We build a strong core of friendship during this intensive that resonates with you long after the final exam and your completion of the course. The Sessions are designed so you can complete the entire 3 weeks all at once, or complete the first Session and return in September to complete the 2nd.

Successful completion culminates in a Certificate of Community Herbalist.
