Tell Us: What’s Your Favorite Thing About Fall on Martha’s Vineyard?

What makes this time of year on the Island special to you?

Autumn is officially here. As we head into the first weekend of fall, the evidence of the season is all around us. The change from summer to fall is one of Islander’s favorite times of year. The crowds are gone, there’s plenty of parking, the Derby starts, there’s the Living Local Harvest Fest to look forward to, not to mention all the fun of Halloween.

Tell us what your favorite part of autumn is on the Island? Is it seeing friendly faces again? Or is it the chilly nights and the crisp blue-sky days? How about harvesting and putting up vegetables, or getting onto all the up-Island beaches?

Tell us in the comments why you love fall on Martha’s Vineyard!

Nature beautifully slowing down - almost as compensation for, and relief from, the un-natural human pace of the immediately proceeding summer season. Oh - and pumpkin carving.

John, it really is quite a reward isn't it? I'm so partial to the light at this time of year. It never ceases to astound me.

Quiet....is what I appreciate the most. Not absolute, zero-gravity vacuum quiet, but the absence of frenzy that characterizes the island in summertime. I want to hear the crickets, the woodpeckers, the peepers, the turkeys -- and the waves on the beach...

The colors, cranberry, grey and the darker blue ocean. Oh and the fishing gets good.

yes, the maroons, golds and mahogany's. Sea lavender, quiet walks on the beach
