A Sunday Afternoon Poem for Feb. 17, 2013

These week's poem is by Valerie Sonnenthal of Chilmark.

lying with the ancients

rekindling rootedness
listening to trees
being cut down, chippered
returned to earth
hoping the ways of some
do not mitigate
what has never been
rightfully ours
our gained misperceptions
our strained beliefs
our abhorrent behavior
the greatest mystery
mankind creating
destroying
moving on
