Four island business join to sponsor If Opera Be the Food of Love, Eat On! Starring Chef Matthew Passaclacqua & Wendy Taucher Dance Opera Theater at Winnetu Oceanside Resort on Saturday October 19, 2013, the only arts & foodie event of the Martha’s Vineyard Food & Wine Festival.  The Martha’s Vineyard businesses are Edible Wellness—Zephir Plume, The Good Farm—Jefferson Munroe, MV Seacoast Properties—Stephanie Burke and Tilton Tents & Party Rentals—Sandra Lippens.  Taking constructive action in order to help build shoulder season activities, the businesses are providing underwriting, artist hospitality and treats for the patron gift bags.  The opera/foodie event is the brainchild of Wendy Taucher and Stephanie Burke, owner of Seacoast Properties, who is active in theater on the island.  Tickets are only $185 (all inclusive) for this perfect date night, which starts at 6:30 p.m. at Lure Grill, Winnetu Oceanside Resort, Edgartown, MA.  Tickets at www.ticketsmv.com or at the Christina Gallery, Edgartown.

 

Jefferson Munroe, owner of The Good Farm is one of the island’s unique and busy farmers, providing poultry and pork to the public and many of the MV’s popular restaurants.  You can catch Jefferson at the Saturday Farmers Market, moving inside the Ag Hall soon. Jefferson encourages you to order your Thanksgiving birds now.  Zephir Plume has created a new line of products for the health-conscious, including bitters and oils.  Trained in health, wellness and nutrition, Zephir brings a thoughtful, witty touch to her soothing products.  Sandra Lippens of Tilton Tents & Party Rentals is one of the most generous patrons on the island, providing gifts and services to many of the Martha’s Vineyard’s non-profits.  All four of these businesses are supporting this project as it is helps to build the off-season economy and, by combining performance with the food festival, supporting the Cape & Island Fall for the Arts tourist initiative.

 

If Opera Be the Food of Love, Eat On! part of the Edgartown Board of Trade’s Martha’s Vineyard Food & Wine Festival, combines opera classics—with a little Broadway thrown in—great food, a lovely setting for a unique cabaret-style event. Lure Chef Matthew Passalacqua, of Winnetu Oceanside resort has collaborated with Wendy Taucher Dance Opera Theater, creating a delectable sequence of food, wine pairings, fancy and song.  Entertainment is paced throughout the evening as four singers perform operatic showpieces and comic turns.  An elegant five-course meal will be served, with entertainment between courses.  Singers hail from the

Metropolitan Opera Guild, New York Philharmonic broadcast, NY Gilbert & Sullivan Players at City Center and Juilliard’s New York Festival of Song. 

 

Wendy Taucher has been commissioned to create a new solo for international dancer/choreographer Nora Chipaumire of Zimbabwe and New York City, which will premier winter 2014. She is collaborating with Professor Jessica Harris on Uprising, a new opera/theater work based on the German Coast slave revolt which took place near New Orleans in 1811. She is artistic director of World Choreography Institute, currently holding its Inaugural Year Think Tanks in New York City and Martha’s Vineyard.  At Times Square’s Laurie Beechman Theater WT DOT has become company-in-residence, as they are at MV’s Featherstone Center for the Arts.  Ms. Taucher is collaborating with Island Theater Workshop to create Opera Rocks: A New Family Musical, has collaborated with Carly Simon, Carla Maxwell at the Jose Limon Dance Company, was a long-time teaching artist for Lincoln Center Institute and is a published author.
