Move Stop & Shop to State Road, Vineyard Haven Resident Suggests

"If Stop & Shop were located on State Road then I bet all of us would see some serious grocery store price competition, in areas of quality and price," writes Heidi Feldman of Vineyard Haven.

Have you seen the latest letter to the editor? It's from Heidi Feldman of Vineyard Haven, who like many Islanders is concerned about Stop & Shop's proposed expansion there.

"Honestly, I dread the thought of a major construction project at Five Corners," Feldman writes. "The resulting larger store would create increased gridlock at peak times, overload the recently renovated parking lot, and potentially prevent emergency police response from the Tisbury Police Headquarters."

Feldman's suggestion: Move the store out of downtown entirely, "potentially to somewhere just out of town on State Road."

Moving the supermarket would  "avoid the congestion and lack of sufficient parking" at the current location, Feldman writes, and could have other advantages as well:

"If Stop & Shop were located on State Road then I bet all of us would see some serious grocery store price competition, in areas of quality and price," she concludes.
