When the pinkletinks begin to sing, it's a sure sign that the Edgartown DQ is ready to open.

This year's no exception: First came word from the Vineyard Gazette that the spring peepers had been heard in Lambert's Cove Sunday, and Wednesday at 11 the island's only chain eatery opened its doors for the 2013 season.

Through those doors quickly came posses of MVRHS students, released early for a teacher prep half-day, along with families and others who lined up to jump-start spring with frozen treats.

A teenaged couple shared kisses and sundaes at one of the picnic tables, while nearby a group of high school boys discussed Dr. Who.

By 2 p.m., the line for service stretched out the door and into the parking lot.
