WMVY Announces Return to Martha's Vineyard FM Airwaves
Confined to the internet and Rhode Island radio frequencies since February, WMVY will again be heard on Martha's Vineyard and nearby Cape Cod radios in the spring of 2014 at 88.7 FM, MVYRadio personnel announced Thursday morning.
Nine months after radio station WMVY signed off the air, its local frequency sold to Boston's WBUR, station personnel announced Thursday that they are returning to local airwaves.
"We plan to acquire the local signal 88.7 FM and will be broadcasting on the Vineyard again in the spring of 2014, after we go through all the necessary FCC approvals," Barbara Dacey said on the station's morning program with Laurel Redington Thursday.
Since February, MVYRadio has been streaming on the internet and broadcasting on frequencies heard in Rhode Island, but has been unavailable over the air on the Vineyard and Cape.
Dacey said the new frequency will carry the station's old call letters, WMVY.
