"The Vineyard" TV Show Gets Scathing Reactions on Facebook

What are people saying about Tuesday night's premiere of "The Vineyard"?

After months of anticipation and controversy, the unscripted TV series "The Vineyard" had its premiere Tuesday night on the ABC Family channel.

Here's what TV critics had to say about "The Vineyard," including "When is the shark going to eat all these dopes?"

Viewers who watched the 10 p.m. show had a variety of reactions — most of them negative, according to these comments on Facebook and MV Patch:

  •  "It was great! I loved the part when it ended and went away forever!"
  • "Just awful. That isn't what the Vineyard stands for. It's a complete misrepresentation."
  • "The show makes improv and the Vineyard look terrible."
  • "Idiotic & painful to watch. And why title it 'The Vineyard' when it's all about the Black Dog? Those of us who weren't sick of Black Dog T shirts already, must be after this."
  • "Think my IQ dropped by 20 points. It was just awful."
  • "Why not call it 'pretty white kids that have it easy and need drama in their life so they can be big stars'? I think that would be a better title. Apparently ABC has nothing better to do with their money. STUPID, STUPID, STUPID. Everyone get my opinion?"
  • "It's just not pleasant to watch outright meanness and attitude for no reason at all. 'I'm gonna hate you first before you get to hate me.'"
  • "I lasted 10 minutes. When that girl said 'I don't have to like you' I said 'Wonderful! I don't have to like you either!' Click!"
  • "Maybe in the next episode they will meet up with some Inky people from the Inkwell! all white cast so far! Love the loser islander stereotype!"
  • "Awful! bad acting... beautiful Island though!"
  • "Felt like The OC or The Hills"
  • "Be so ashamed. Not right... I'm a SEVENTH generation native and I'm absolutely disgusted. This is NOOOOT my home, and I resent your representation of something I used to cherish... Honestly offensive."
  • "The guy who is holding the FANS! sign is so cute and he looks great with Katie in the show."
  • "This show is totally NOT Vineyard style. and do people seriously act like that? They act totally brainless. The only character I liked was the local girl."
  • "The American Public is already slow enough! They don't need another moronic 'reality' television show on the airwaves! Way to pander to an already ignorant society and then get offended when someone calls America less than great!"
  • "Wow guys... You actually had a little local support in the beginning. Some folks were actually optimistic. You 'producers' should all be fired, and send us 'natives' a personal apology. Seriously... You blew it..."
  • "Gotta say acting was way lame!!! I had high hopes...but totally enjoyed the scenery at least!!"
  • "I LOVE IT! Your new show is the best!"
  • "Not sure about this one."
  • "Total lack of diversity."
  • "The whole program was disappointing, insipid, and down right silly. The 'actors' couldn't act worth spit. As for the scenery? You saw the ferry come in, you saw the ferry go out. You saw the lighthouse, the sand dunes, and the Black Dog this and that. Where were the local street scenes, such as Oak Bluffs, Vineyard Haven, and Edgartown? Why couldn't the 'characters' have a meaningful conversation at Trinity Park (Is that the name?) with the Tabernacle or Victorian cottages as a background, to get a feel for the place? If anything, this should have been a documentary on what is is like to live on Martha's Vineyard, with interviews with the local merchants, ferry captains, and residents of the little cottages. And don't forget Illumination night, and the community sing!"
Now it's your turn: Did you watch the show? What's your review? Will you be tuning in again next Tuesday? Tell us in the comments.
