Museum To Host Plein Air Artist Sessions Throughout Month Of October

Museum opens properties around the Island to those participating in the plein air artist sessions

The Martha's Vineyard Museum has joined Arts Martha’s Vineyard to celebrate the Fall for the Arts Festival. Throughout the month of October, various Museum properties will be open for Island artists to participate in a series of plein air artist sessions. Plein air is a French expression that translates to “open air” and is often used to describe the act of painting outdoors. In addition to paintings, the Museum is encouraging the creation of poetry, photography, and music inspired by the beautiful views.

The plein air sessions will take place from 12 noon until 5 pm each weekend at the following locations:

  • Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, October 6, 7, and 8 – Gay Head Lighthouse
  • Saturday and Sunday, October 13 and 14 – MV Museum Edgartown Campus
  • Saturday and Sunday, October 20 and 21 – MV Museum Vineyard Haven Campus
  • Saturday and Sunday, October 27 and 28 – Edgartown Lighthouse

Artists are invited to display their finished works for a few weeks in the Museum’s Spotlight Gallery exhibition in January 2013. They are encouraged to RSVP and register with the Museum in advance, so they can be promoted to the community. Call Chris, 508-627-4441 x110 or e-mail cbahara@mvmuseum.org.
