A few highlights for the arts this July

As the July 4th weekend approaches, summer kicks into full swing. The Island's art world is no exception. No matter what town you live in, there are arts events nearby that are sure to feature some of the greatest works of Martha's Vineyard art. With so much going on, it's nearly impossible to put together an exhaustive list of what's going on this month, but we thought we'd highlight a few. Be sure to check our Events Calender regularly for updates and additions.

 

OAK BLUFFS

We'll start things off in OB as there is an Arts District Stroll on July 9 that's not to be missed. All of the galleries in the District will be open from 4 to 7 p.m. and will feature exciting shows that day. Be sure to stop by PIKNIK Art & Apparel for the opening of Primo Tempere Pictoris In Insula - First Time Artists On the Island Show. , , and Periwinkle Studio will also be featuring new work during the Stroll.

The Allen Whiting Retrospective Show, a selection of work spanning the painter's 40 year career, opens at on July 3 and continues through July 21. An opening reception will take place July 3 from 4 to 6 p.m.

EDGARTOWN

Suzanne Crocker, Ken Otsuka and Ken Auster kick off the season for . An artists' reception takes place on July 14 from 5 to 7 p.m. and the show will stay up through the 27th.

presents new work from July 2 through 8, with an artists' reception on Sunday, July 3 from 5 to 7 p.m. Featured artists are Alison Convery, Janis Langley, Steve London and Victor Pisini

 

VINEYARD HAVEN

The will be featuring a series of Artist's Talks this season. July's talks include: Rose Abrahamson on July 2, Leslie Baker on July 12, Jennifer McCurdy on July 19 and Denise Labadie on July 31. All talks begin at 6 p.m.

Also this month at Shaw Cramer will be Art Works, a benefit show for the West Tisbury Library featuring art donated by 40 Island artists. The event runs from July 25 through 26, with an Artist Appreciation Reception on July 25 from 5 to 8 p.m.

WEST TISBURY

has two shows running this month. The first, featuring Michael Stimola and Rob Franco, opens with an artists' reception on July 10 from 5 to 7 p.m. and runs through July 23. The second features the work of Stephanie Danforth, Charles Gibbs and Susan Metzger. The artists' reception takes place on July 24 from 5 to 7 p.m. The show will stay up through August 6.

will start off the month with Alison Shaw, Kenneth Vincent, David Wallis and Dan West. Artists' reception will take place on July 3 from 5 to 7 p.m. The show will continue through July 16. The next show of works by Heather Neill, Don Wilks, David Fokos and Jeanne Staples will go up on July 17, with an artists' recption that evening from 5 to 7 p.m. The show will continue until the 30th.
