Art*Island Festival Schedule of Events

The four-day Festival of Arts and Ideas takes over the Harbor View starting today

Over 20 arts organizations and business from across the Island came together with over a dozen individuals to create Art*Island – a festival celebrating the vitality of the arts on our highly creative Island. The festival will be the culmination of Fall for the Arts, a month-long Cape and Islands campaign highlighting our creative community.

The weekend’s events begin on October 24th and go through October 28th - all taking place at the Harbor View Hotel in Edgartown, which will be transformed into galleries, craft centers, dance theaters, film centers and even a ballroom. There will be events for the whole family, events just for kids and a couple of events just for the grown-ups as well.

Wednesday, October 24th 7:30 pm

Pecha Kucha Night

Martha's Vineyard Museum​ makes Edgartown one of 556 cities participating in world wide design talks. These 20x20 talks — twenty slides with twenty seconds each — are inventive and engaging ways to discover process, thinking and creativity behind some of the Island's best design and art. Thursday, October 25th – Sunday, October 28th

Island Art Show

Island Galleries turn the Harbor View Hotel into a harbor side art show. Two-dimensional art will be shown throughout the lobby, in the dining rooms and the function rooms. View paintings and photography over the entire weekend and engage gallerists on Saturday afternoons to review, discuss and purchase art.

 

Thursday, October 25th 7 pm

Paint & Champagne

Bring your inner-painter to this fun evening of step-by-step art immersion led by the renowned Vineyard painter Traeger DiPietro. You will paint your masterpiece in the Harbor View “art studio” (the main dining room) accompanied by music and wine or champagne. This fun, benefit event will culminate at the end of the evening with a festive group “show.” The event benefits Arts Martha’s Vineyard. $25

Friday, October 26th 5:30 pm

An Island Picture Book

Acclaimed photographer Alison Shaw has captured the Vineyard in several award winning “picture books” published by Vineyard Stories. Come engage the artist/photographer for the books “Schooner”, “Morning Glory Farm” and the “The Chappy Ferry Book”. Those and latest title, To the Harbor Light,” will be on hand.

Sponsored by Vineyard Stories and Bunch of Grapes Bookstore.​

 

Friday, October 26th 6 pm

Art*Island Preview Party

The Art*Island Preview Party welcomes art lovers with a great mix of music, fashion and art throughout the hotel and in the Harbor View “ballroom”. DJ Di will play the tunes as artists as gallerists and the public gather for this evening opening. Free.

 

Saturday, October 27th 1:30 pm

YardWorks

YardWorks dancers will present one hour of short dance pieces made up of visiting and local performers. YardWorks is an interactive art collaborative, which engages professional performers living on and visiting the Vineyard. Come enjoy inventive dance sketches in the beautiful setting of the Harbor View “ballroom.”  Free. Sponsored by the Yard.

 

Saturday, October 27th beginning at 3 pm

Martha’s Vineyard Film Festival presents Vineyard Shorts

MVFF will screen short films by local filmmakers in two screenings — one at 3pm and one at 7pm. Screenings will be followed by brief discussions. Films will be shown in the Art Lounge/Theater. Free. Sponsored by the Martha's Vineyard Film Festival

 

Saturday, October 27th 9 pm

Masquerade Ball

Art*Island Art Masquerade Ball just might be the party of the 2012. The Ball benefits and celebrates the arts and our vibrant and creative community. The Sultans of Swing will get masqueraders moving. Come as Frida, as Andy or as a living work of art.​ $25

 

Sunday, October 28th 1 pm

Children’s Carnivale

Art*Island’s Sunday events focus on the creative spirit of young people. Collaborative arts activities, curated by Featherstone, The Yard, Island Theater Workshop, the YMCA and Arts Martha’s Vineyard will provide children great creative fun. There will be performances, music, theater and dance, mask making, felting, puppets — and that’s just the beginning! Free.​
