Weekend Planner: September 16-18

From bonfires to fishing derbies, a jam packed weekend on the island means activities and fun abound.

Kick off your weekend of fun on Friday, September 16 in Chilmark, with a bonfire at Native Earth.  Friends and families are encouraged to join a guided tour around the farm, or to roast marshmallows over the fire. Appropriate for all ages, this event occurs weekly at 7 p.m.

Annual Tivoli Day Festival in Oak Bluffs

The yearly Tivoli Day Festival will occur this Saturday, September 17 on Circuit Ave in Oak Bluffs.  With summer's end comes this annual day of food, fun and music for all ages. Stores will offer end-of-season sales and people are encouraged to enjoy tunes from local musicians and partake in outdoor dining all day, starting at 9 a.m.

On Saturday, September 17 you can take advantage of one of some deals at the library. From 1 to 3 p.m., the Vineyard Haven Library will offer some big deals at this "mini" sale. Proceeds from the sale will benefit children's programs at the library, as well as other Friends of the Vineyard Haven Library service programs.

One of the final kayak tours of 2011 season will take place Saturday morning, September 17. From 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., members and new comers alike can join Felix Neck staff on this adventure. The tour focuses on the wildlife and natural history surrounding the various marshes and saltwater ponds of the island.  

 

Kids Fishing Derby Day in Oak Bluffs

While the Annual Striped Bass and Bluefish Derby is nearly a month in length, the traditional Kids Day, honoring youths with a penchant for fishing is only this Sunday, September 18.  Beginning at dawn and ending at 9 a.m., with weigh in at the Oak Bluffs Steamship pier, kids up to age 14 are encouraged to join in the fun. Bait is provided and there is no charge for entry. T-shirts will be given to all who participate.
