Party with the Best of Them

Best Fest, a celebration of local artisans and music, returns or the second year on Saturday, September 10. Vendors will set up camp from 3 to 7 p.m. at Washington Square in Oak Bluffs, between Our Market and the Ocean View. At 8 p.m. a 20-piece brass band, the Extraordinary Rendition Band, will parade down Circuit Ave. Afterward, the party will move to the , where a host of Island musicians will perform. The festival is a benefit for community radio station WVVY.

Honor the Children Gone Too Soon

Saturday, September 10 marks the 10th anniversary of the Children’s Memorial at the . A ceremony honoring the occasion will take place at 1 p.m.; it will feature a short ceremony and refreshments afterward at the Harborview Hotel. The memorial honors children who died at a young age.

Wet a Line and Line up for the Daily Catch

The annual Martha's Vineyard Striped Bass & Bluefish Derby kicks off Sunday, September 11 at 12:01 a.m. Derby headquarters are located on the Edgartown Harbor, next to the Edgartown Yacht Club. Watch the anglers in action as they vie for the biggest fish, or check out the leader board and filleting in action.

 

Swim, Bike and Sprint Your Way to Victory

The first-ever Olympic distance triathlon, the Vineyard Warrior race, will lead participants on a one-mile swim, a 24.7-mile bike, and a 6.2 mile run through Oak Bluffs, Tisbury and West Tisbury. The race starts Sunday, September 10, around 7 a.m., at .

 

Race for Readers

Not up to a whole triathlon? The is hosting a 5K and ½ mile fun run for kids on Sunday, September 11. The fun run, for kids 13 and younger, begins at 9:45 a.m. at the library; the 5K begins at 10 a.m. Onsite registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and costs $20; all registered runners will receive a T-shirt and maw qualify for an award. The race is sponsored by the Friends of the Vineyard Haven Public Library.
