Vineyard Men Occupy Seawall In Anti-Violence Stand

For the second year in a row, a small demonstration on the Vineyard Haven seawall has drawn together men who oppose violence against women.

The men taking part in the Seawall Event between 11 AM and 2 PM Saturday held signs stating why they were there:

"I am standing for my 7 nieces!" read one.

Another man's sign said he was on the seawall to "Be an example for my son Xavier."

"Military women," read the third man's sign.

In all, about 19 men took part in this year's action, said Heather Arpin, a counselor with Connect to End Violence, a program of Martha's Vineyard Community Services, which sponsors the demonstration.

Passing cars and even mopeds honked in support of the men.

Did you see the demonstration Saturday? Did you take part? Tell us in the comments.
