Vineyard Boat's Violins Mystify Woods Hole Denizens

An unusual sight aboard a moored sailboat has had a Woods Hole innkeeper wondering what's up. We're happy to tell you more about the boat builder and violin maker aboard "Harmony," as posted in the Martha's Vineyard Times.

A sloop from Vineyard Haven has been causing comment in Woods Hole, where the Woods Hole Inn posted this intriguing photo and appeal on Facebook Friday:

"Someone please tell me more about the guy who hangs violins on his boat in Eel Pond. I'm curious!"

The post drew several likes and a quick response from another another Facebook user who commented "Yes I'm curious as well."

Patch is happy to oblige:

According to the cruising yachtsman Seaver Jones, writing in the Martha's Vineyard Times, the yacht "Harmony," hailing from Vineyard Haven, is a 30-foot 1937 Crocker sloop restored by owner and boat builder Andy Lyon, who also makes handcrafted violins.

At the time of Jones's 2008 "Breakwater News" column, Lyon said he was working on his fourth violin. Judging from the Woods Hole Inn's photo five years later, he is still at it.
