"Run on, Remember and Heal," Says Martha's Vineyard Race Organizer

Amid the outpouring of sympathy for those killed, hurt and heartbroken in Monday's terror bombings at the Boston Marathon finish line, a runner and race organizer on Martha's Vineyard posted his thoughts on Facebook.

Peter Lambos, executive director and CEO of the Martha's Vineyard Boys and Girls Club and race director for the annual Martha's Vineyard 20 Miler, which benefits the club, wrote on the Facebook page for the 20 Miler race,

"Dear 20 Milers,

I want to express my deepest sympathies and condolences to anyone affected by the unspeakable tragedy at the Boston Marathon. My first thoughts when hearing of the bombings were of the safety and well being of you and your families. 

We at the Martha's Vineyard 20 Miler feel a strong connection to the Boston Marathon, as many of you run our event in preparation for Boston.

We do not have the elite runners who garner international acclaim, but rather the people who are the heart of the Boston Marathon. You are the runners who exemplify the spirit of the event, and through doing what you love, better the lives of others by running for charity.

This was an attack on the best of you, and the families and friends that love and support you.

I can only hope that everyone is OK, but I’m deeply saddened by the reality that some of you have likely suffered loss. If there is any way that I can be of service in this trying time please let me know.

Don’t let this act of cowardice and hate break your spirit. Run on, remember and heal.
