"Naked Thursday" a Tradition for Oak Bluffs Couple Married 41 Years

What makes a relationship last? Dinner together, saying "I love you" ... and Naked Thursday, say Martha's Vineyard couple Skip and Karen Finley in a New York Times interview about their 41-year marriage.

Meet Skip and Karen Finley of Oak Bluffs, if you didn't already know them from their many years as Martha's Vineyard residents.

The Finleys' 41-year marriage was recently spotlighted in a New York Times interview titled "Never Too Many 'I Love You's' for This Couple."

Among the secrets the Finleys shared with the Times's "Booming: 'Making It Last'" column, which profiles baby-boomer couples who have been together for at least a quarter-century:

  • Always have dinner together.
  • Never leave the house or end a conversation without saying, “I love you.”
  • "And Naked Thursday," Skip says. "It's what keeps us in shape." (And "keeps the visitors down," Karen adds.)
