A sold-out and attentive crowd greeted author Michael Pollan and WBUR radio journalist Sacha Pfeiffer at the FARM Institute Thursday night, when Pfeiffer interviewed Pollan -- who began his writing career as a Vineyard Gazette reporter -- about his latest book "Cooked."
The only interruption, as Pollan answered Pfeiffer's questions and read from his book about kitchen discoveries, was an explosion of cackling when a roaming chicken was apprehended by event security shortly after the onstage conversation began.
"I believe that was a protest," Pollan quipped.
After the conversation and question-and-answer period, Pollan signed books and audience members sampled a buffet of light foods from local purveyors.
The $15 FARM Institute event was co-sponsored by Edible Vineyard and WBUA.
