"Magical" Honey Appears At Farmers Market

Chocolate and strawberry honeys come straight from Island honeybees that have been fed a special sweet diet of natural ingredients to create "working magical spells," says Oak Bluffs beekeeper Monica Miller, of Martha's Vineyard Honey Company.

We've all heard of wildflower honey, orange blossom honey and of course "Tupelo Honey."

But only on Martha's Vineyard – at least for now – can you find chocolate honey and strawberry honey, at the West Tisbury Farmers Market.

These aren't flavored honeys made by mixing ingredients; They come straight from Island honeybees that have been fed a special sweet diet of natural ingredients, says Oak Bluffs beekeeper Monica Miller, of Martha's Vineyard Honey Company.

"The bees are alchemists," says Miller, who is also known as the Perfume Pharmer.

Not only that: Miller says her chocolate and strawberry honeys are "working magical spells."

The chocolate honey, Miller says, is a spell to treat grief and shock, "like in the Harry Potter novels."

The strawberry jam is a love spell that "helps you be in love with yourself and humanity," Miller says.

You can sample Miller's "magical" honeys, and her other distinctive, straight-from-the-hive flavors including orange and lavender, at the West Tisbury Farmers Market Saturdays till Oct. 5 and Wednesdays till Aug. 28 from 9 a.m. to noon.
