Ceremony of Remembrance at the Edgartown Lighthouse

The 10th Annual Ceremony of Remembrance will take place on Saturday, September 10th, at 1pm at the Edgartown Lighthouse Children's Memorial.  The Martha's Vineyard Museum, now in care of the structure, has carried on this tradition after lighthousekeeper Rick Harrington decided to leave the light on as a way remember his 16 year old son. It has now grown to be a memorial for 542 children, each honored with a stone at the base of the lighthouse.  The restored lighthouse is open to the public.  Following the ceremony, refreshments will be served at the Harborview Hotel.

In the event of rain, the date will be postponed to September 17th.

If you would like to purchase a memorial stones ($250) please contact Betsey Mayhew at bmayhew@mvmuseum.org or 508-627-4441, ext. 112.
