"Carmen" Comes to the Capawock

Every week Patch brings you a Great Escape to unplug and recharge.

Martha's Vineyard is an arts paradise. We've got galleries galore, Featherstone, the Yard and the Vineyard Playhouse.

What don't we have? An opera house.

But we do have the Capawock.

The Vineyard Haven theater has pulled the plug on Hollywood movies for the winter, and introduced in its place its series.

Sunday at 1 p.m. the Capawock Theatre will screen a performance of Georges Bizet's "Carmen." Tickets are $20, $18 for seniors and students.

The price of admission won't get you an in-the-flesh appearance from Andrea Bocelli or Renée Fleming, but it will bring you the timeless, ill-fated love story of the gypsy and her corporal for a fraction of the price of a trip to the Boston Opera House.
