Beach Trash Is "Ridiculous," Vineyard Visitor Says

If you were at Bend in the Road Beach in Edgartown Monday morning, you might have seen a curious site: a middle-aged man in a bathing suit, an open shirt and a ball cap was carefully arranging an assortment of trash -- including curly ribbon from balloons and several beer bottles -- at the edge of the dune.

"Every time I go to a beach, I pick up garbage," said Ray Abbot of Demarest, N.J.

"if everybody just took 10 minutes walking down the beach and picked up trash, it'd be more enjoyable for everyone," Abbott said.

Abbott said the pile of beer bottles he picked up at Bend in the Road was "ridiculous."

"Who brings glass to a beach?" he asked.
