Angel Flight Offers Services to Those Affected by Hurricane

Local pilots offer to help individuals in need of evacuation

Angel Flight Northeast, the organization of volunteer pilots that arranges free flights for Islanders requiring access to medical care off-island, is offering its services and pilots to those affected by Hurricane Sandy.

Angel Flight NE released the following letter on Friday morning.

Dear Pilots, Volunteers and Friends:

As we all have seen or even experienced first hand, Hurricane Sandy left a path of destruction up and down the east coast and has devastated so many lives.

Angel Flight NE’s mission is to help those in need and would like to assist where possible by providing air transportation to assist those in need especially in the areas that AFNE serves such as New York and New Jersey.

If you are aware of any individuals in need of air transportation for evacuation or any need, please reach out to Paula or Carolyn in our office. Together, we can start to bring healing and hope to those who so desperately need our help.

We have already reached out via social media/face book to thousands, and are in the process of contacting FEMA, NYC mayor’s office, the Red Cross and NJ Governor’s office as well as federal and state VOAD’s. However, we feel we can be most effective in getting help to those in need if you our pilots and volunteers reach out to officials and groups in your local area and not rely on large bureaucratic agencies.

For those of our pilots and volunteers on Long Island, Staten Island, the Rock Aways, and through out New Jersey, please let us know how we can be of help to you, your families, friends and neighbors.

Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone during this difficult time.

Warmest regards,
Larry and the Angel Flight NE Staff
