THE MARTHA’S VINEYARD FOOD AND WINE FESTIVAL

Tickets on Sale Now

The Martha’s Vineyard Food & Wine Festival has officially posted its 2013 schedule of events including special guests, such as Napa Valley Vintner Joseph Carr and celebrity Chef and Hobby-Farmer, Suvir Saran.  Tickets are now on sale. This four-day Farm-to-table, gastronomical event will take place October 17 – 20, 2013.   MVF&WF proudly supports Island Grown Schools. IGS comes under the Island Grown Initiative umbrella and is the Vineyard’s farm-to-school program which seeks to raise a new generation of Vineyarders who are connected to local farms and farmers, empowered to make healthy eating choices, informed about the food system, and engaged in growing food for themselves and their families.

The kick-off festivities begin on Thursday, October 17th with  Vineyard Gazette’s “Fresh off the Farm” event, a special farm to table tasting for year-round and seasonal residents at the Ag Hall, followed by exciting, one-of-a-kind seminars, food demonstrations with top chefs, culminating with an elegant Grand Tasting tented in beautiful Downtown Edgartown on Mayhew Lane.  Fine Wine Specialist, Dan Michaud from Ruby Wines, will take you on a whirlwind tour of Italian vineyards pairing the finest Italian wines with fresh oysters.  Pair historic Edgartown with renowned Architect Patrick Ahern and delectable bites from Vineyard Chef Jan Buhrman of Kitchen Porch Catering.  Learn as Ahearn discusses the history of Martha’s Vineyard Architecture and how the town of Edgartown developed to what it is today.  From the first established residences to the estate homes of Edgartown, you will learn of the Island’s rich heritage and the history of its design. Enjoy local aged cheese and wine with Edgartown’s Mark Venette, owner of Black Sheep and Lisa Kaplan of Domaine Select.  Food and wine enthusiasts will enjoy sipping fine wines from around the world and tasting extraordinary cuisine from top chefs from Martha’s Vineyard and beyond.

This year, the Festival is partnering with Drync, a mobile app that lets people snap a photo of a wine and buy it instantaneously from their iPhone for delivery to their doorstep.  Likened to “Shazam for wine,” attendees simply scan labels of wines they try and the app will provide them detailed information about the wine, allow them to add their personal rating and notes and easily buy the wine within seconds from their mobile device.

Through Drync, consumers have instant access to over 30,000 wines for sale, representing nearly every wine currently available in the market.  This addresses two major wine consumer conundrums: remembering wines and easily finding those wines to buy or gift. It is the first app on the market to enable wine drinkers to instantaneously buy wines while they try them by scanning the wine label and placing orders directly through the app.

A top wine app for over 4 years, Drync has appeared in several Apple television commercials and was chosen as a top wine app by the New York Times and Mashable.

Boston magazine and The Vineyard Gazette are Festival media sponsors bringing you this signature Island event. Andy Husbands of Tremont 647, Boston, and Harbor View Hotel Executive Chef, Shaun Brian Sells are serving as the 2013 Presenting Chefs.  The event is most notable for its local harvests from both sea and Island farms.

“This event is a unique one,” says Christina Cook, President of the Edgartown Board of Trade.  “This is not a “trade festival” this is a festival of heart and soul, around food, wine and more importantly, this Island.  This is as much a celebration of our business and local community and the exciting programs that exist here for families, such as Island Grown Schools as it is a food and wine event.”

The Martha’s Vineyard Food and Wine Festival was created to enhance tourism on the Island and to support and promote Island initiatives through broad-based community involvement.
