MV 13's All-Stars Lose in District 7 Babe Ruth Finals

The MV 13's made it to the Babe Ruth District 7 finals by defeating Sandwich on Friday, July 5th by a score of 6-5. In that game Elias Fhagen-Smith started and pitched 4 1/3 innings keeping MV in the game, leaving trailing by a score of 5-4. Jack Sayre came in a shut the door with 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief, picking up the victory as MV scored a run in the top of the 6th and top of the 7th to notch the win and advance to the district finals. Offensively, MV was led by Mitchell Chaves with 3 hits (2 singles and a double) and 2 RBI, Jack Sayre and Sam Bresnick each with 2 hits and Elias Fhagen-Smith and Theo Gallagher with one hit apiece. John Morris chipped in with an RBI groundout and scored the go ahead run on a ground out by Graham Lewis followed by a Sandwich throwing error. Then on Saturday, July 6th, MV took on Plymouth for the district championship hoping to avenge an earlier round loss that threw MV into the losers bracket. Unfortunately Plymouth was just too strong and won the game by a score of 7-0. MV was in the game throughout, trailing only 2-0 after 4 innings and 3-0 after 5 innings. Jack Sayre once again pitched great, throwing the first 4 innings allowing only 2 runs on 2 hits, 1 walk with 6 strike outs. Taber Caron pitched the 5th (allowing only 1 run) and Mitchell Chaves and Graham Lewis combined to pitch the 6th inning. The MV offense just couldn’t break through coming up with only a pair of hits - a double by Jack Sayre and single by Theo Gallagher and added a couple more base runners via walks. Though the offense wasn't there, it was a moral victory for MV as it was the only game in the entire District 7 Tournament that Plymouth did not win via the slaughter rule in less than 7 innings. Next it is on to the Mansfield Tournament on July 13th and 14th where MV will compete against Mansfield, Walpole, Sandwich, Wrentham, Attleboro and Sakonett, RI.
