The Festival will feature a concert on Saturday, September 14, 8pm at Flatbread Company in Edgartown. Titled, “Behind the Curtain with Nashville Hit-Makers,” the evening will showcase acclaimed writers Jim McCormick, Steve Seskin, Will Robinson and Brian Maher, who have penned hits for top contemporary country artists like Kenny Chesney, Tim McGraw, Jason Aldean, Randy Travis, Luke Bryan,  Tricia Yearwood, Brantley Gilbert and Trace Adkins.

They will be joined by emerging Nashville artists Lance Carpenter, Sarah Kirkland, Jason Gregory, Allen Shervelle, Dani Wheeler, Jesse Terry (a Berklee College Of Music alum) and New England native Casey Derhak. Tickets ($15) available at www.ticketsmv.com/flatbreadmv.

The festival will also feature a weekend workshop in West Tisbury focusing on both the art and business of commercial songwriting.

Prior to their visit to Martha’s Vineyard, on Thursday, September 12, the hit writers and emerging artists will perform at Church of Boston Restaurant and Music Club in Boston.

Jim McCormick, who recently wrote #1 songs for Brantley Gilbert and Jason Aldean, said, “I’m really excited to be a part of this event and to get to play with some of the most talented people I know. I think anyone who loves great music will enjoy these performances. You’ll get a glimpse at the future of Nashville, hear number one hits

and the stories behind them, and get a sneak preview of songs that you might hear on the radio a couple of years from now. “

Aspiring songwriters are invited to attend a two-day Songwriters Workshop in West Tisbury beginning on Saturday, September 14 and concluding Sunday at 4PM. The workshop will feature instruction by Steve Seskin and Steve Bloch, two successful music professionals with strong Nashville ties.

Songwriter and artist Steve Seskin has written seven number one songs, including Grammy-nominated “Grown Men Don’t Cry,” recorded by Tim McGraw, and “Don’t Laugh at Me,” winner of NSAI (Nashville Songwriter’s Association International) Song of the Year. Steve Bloch, a consultant, publisher and songplugger, has been part of the Nashville landscape for over twenty years, currently serving as Director of Publisher Relations for Artist and Repertoire, LLC.

Workshop attendees are also invited to a casual  BBQ/Guitar Pull the night before (Friday, September 13) in West Tisbury where they will have the opportunity to meet and interact with both the established and emerging artists.

A portion of the proceeds from the Martha’s Vineyard Songwriter’s Festival will be donated to two non-profit organizations benefitting children:  Alex’s Place (http://www.alexsplace.net) created through the efforts of The Alexandra Gagnon Foundation to provide safe, enlightening, educational, and entertaining experiences for teens on Martha’s Vineyard; and the Alliance For Children Foundation (AFC) (www.afcfoundation.org) a Massachusetts-based international relief organization devoted to improving the physical and emotional well- being of orphaned and at-risk children worldwide. The AFC was founded by West Tisbury Resident Filis Casey.

The 2013 Martha’s Vineyard Songwriters Festival is presented by the recently-founded group, New England to Nashville (NETN). Since it’s conception in 2012, NETN has grown to over 100 songwriters and artists based in or connected to New England whose artistic efforts are focused on the Nashville music scene. NETN welcomes various Nashville songwriters and artists throughout the year for workshops and performances.
