Community Corner

Friends of Vineyard Soccer (FOVS), Martha's Vineyard's youth soccer organization, is excited to announce it has elected a new President and Board of Directors to lead the organization for 2014.

David Wallis takes over as President from Richard Bennett who served the organization for 3 years, though he will remain on the board as the Director of Recreation, Director of Equipment and Director of Referees. David brings tremendous enthusiasm and great vision for the organization and has many exciting ideas he hopes to focus on in the coming term. Among them are continued focus on developing a strong recreational program, implementation of a new registration process and web site, review of the league's playing spaces, more focused and dedicated leadership by the board and expanded participation in league matters by a broader segment of the soccer population. David has been on the island over 20 years and has been involved with FOVS as a parent, coach or board member for 11 of those years.

Other individuals elected to the board at the annual meeting on January 9, 2014 include Rocco Bellebuono (also elected to the executive team as Vice President), Kelly Hess (also elected to the executive team as Board Secretary), David Smith (also elected to the executive team as Treasurer), Esteban Aranzabe, Richard Bennett, Damon Burke, Manny Estrella, Zachary Frangos, Oliver Holmes, Hillary Noyes Keene, Primo Lombardi, Matei Mateev, Matt Poole, Brad Pouliot, Jeremy Provost, Kristen Reimann, Peggy Stone, Steve Taylor, and Trip Wadleigh. Each of these board members will be positioned by the president as either the director of one or more specific areas or be working for one or more directors.

As Friends of Vineyard Soccer is an entirely volunteer run organization it is always looking for more people to be involved in providing the great game of soccer to our island youth. People are encouraged to contact David Wallis directly if you want to get involved. Please email him at bdwallis@comcast.net.
