Yoga and More for Kids, Money-Saving Tips for Grown-Ups

Five things to do on the Island this Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013.

1. Get some play time: Thursday programs at the Martha's Vineyard Community Services Family Center include Gym Time, 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Boys & Girls Club and Baby's First Year, 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Family Center.

2. Sign the kids up for yoga: 
Little Yogis at the Oak Bluffs Library:  Thursdays at 4 p.m. (except Dec. 26), the Oak Bluffs Public Library host 'Little Yogis," a yoga instruction program for children ages 4 to 6. There are eight spots available per class and pre-registration is required. Please call 508-693-9433, x.141.

3. Save money on energy: At 6 p.m. at the Oak Bluffs Public Library, The Cape Light Compact (CLC) will present on "How you can save energy at home." Free.

4. Get grants for home repairs: Do you need assistance with housing repairs? Does your home need a new septic, roof, insulation, plumbing, new doors or windows? At the Community Development Block Grants Information Session, 7 p.m. at the Vineyard Haven Public Library, a representative from The Resource, Inc. (TRI) will be on hand to explain the grants, how to apply, and to help you fill out the forms if necessary. Free.

5. Help the hurting: The MV Rotary Club is helping in the Philippines and you can too, writes Mike McCourt: "The Martha's Vineyard Rotary Club is sending $1,000 to the local Rotary Clubs in the Philippines to help out. Through Rotary there are no middle men so the money goes directly to the hurt. If you would like to join in with MV Rotary Club in this effort please contact: Paul J. Watts, P. O.
