Stop & Shop Hearing in Vineyard Haven, 'Thor' in Edgartown, Art in the Stacks

Five things to do today on MV: Weigh in on the Vineyard Haven Stop & Shop expansion or choose from two new films to view tonight; check out Bob Schaefer's paintings at the Vineyard Haven library; volunteer for the upcoming Felix Neck Fall Festival.

  1. The Martha's Vineyard Commission holds a public hearing Thursday on the Vineyard Haven Stop & Shop's proposed expansion. It begins at 7:05 p.m. at the Tisbury Senior Center.
  2. The documentary film, "Wood/Sails/Dreams" by John Stanton, which includes interviews by Island boatbuilders Nat Benjamin and Ross Gannon, shows at 7:30 p.m. at the Martha's Vineyard Film Center in Vineyard Haven, to benefit both the Martha's Vineyard Film Society and SAIL MV. Filmmaker Stanton will be on hand for a Q&A after the screening. Call 508-696-9369 for ticket prices.
  3. See "Thor: The Dark World" at 8 p.m. at Edgartown Cinemas on Main Street. Call 508-627-8008 for ticket prices.
  4. The Vineyard Haven Public Library's "Art in the Stacks" exhibition this month is called "Scenes from Martha's Vineyard," featuring paintings by Bob Schaefer. "Art in the Stacks" is an initiative of the Friends of the Library to provide artists an opportunity to show their work, and for library patrons to enjoy art throughout the year, according to library director Amy Ryan.
  5. Mass Audubon Felix Neck posts on Facebook: "Fall Festival is coming! Our annual day after Thanksgiving event is our biggest of the year and we need your help. If you can spare a few hours to volunteer, please call 508.627.4850 or email felixneck@massaudubon.org to sign up for a shift."
