Stuffed Animal Storytime, Half Day Skating, Free Movie Night

Here comes winter vacation: Five fun things to do today, for Islanders as young as 2 and as old as you feel.


1. Stuffed Animal Storytime: Bring your favorite stuffed animal to the Oak Bluffs Public Library at 10:30 a.m. for storytime with Ms. Zoe. Milk and cookies. Ages 2 and up; free.

2. Half Day fun at the YMCA of Martha's Vineyard includes such activities as a field trip to the MV Ice Arena for skating. $10, free for Y members; starts at noon at 111R Edgartown Rd.

3. The Lifeguard Certification Course from the American Red Cross could help you get a lifeguarding job. $250, scholarship opportunities available; starts 5 p.m. at the YMCA of MV.

4. Men with holiday shopping to do can enjoy some pizza and beer during the Green Room and Rainy Day "Men's Shopping Night," 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the two stores in Vineyard Haven.

5. Not one, but two free holiday movies are showing today: "Santa Buddies" at the Edgartown Public Library,  2 p.m. and "A Christmas Story" at Alex's Place, 7 p.m.
