Snow Danger: Clear Heater Vents & Car Tailpipes, Edgartown Fire Department Warns

Five things to know on the Vineyard this snowy Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014.

1. Here's a safety tip from the Edgartown Fire Department, warning that the fluffy stuff falling from the sky can turn into a killer if not cleared away from exhaust vents: "Make sure heater vents outside (Monitor/Rinnai/etc) are not covered by snow - potential carbon monoxide issue if blocked. Car tailpipes too."

2. If you usually get your morning jolt at Mocha Mott's or Edgartown Meat & Fish Market, please be advised that both are opening later Wednesday because of the storm: Mocha Mott's at 8 a.m. in Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven and Edgartown Meat & Fish at 9 a.m.

3. Looking for the latest storm information on closures, delays and cancellations around the Island? Visit and bookmark the Martha's Vineyard Storm Center 2014, where we bring you updates as soon as they come in.

4. In this weather, it's safest to stay inside. If you're looking for a comfort food treat to cook up while you're home, check this Traditional Bread Pudding Recipe, With a Twist, our latest Lifestyle cooking video.

5. But if you can get out to Wednesday night's free screening of "Say Amen, Somebody!" at the Martha's Vineyard Film Center, it's bound to be an inspiring evening of onscreen gospel music from some of the greatest ever. Show time is 7:30 p.m.
