Island Schools Resume — Briefly — as Storm Approaches

Five things to do and know on Martha's Vineyard as we brace for the first storm of 2014.

1. UPDATED: Martha's Vineyard public schools, back in session today after the December break, will be breaking again at midday due to the expected snowstorm: Please see "Vineyard Schools Have Half-Day Due to Storm" for early release times.

2. Keep up with the latest nor'easter news: Bookmark our Martha's Vineyard Storm Center 2014 page and check it for updates throughout the storm.

3. It's a new year, and we're still here. Are you? If your Martha's Vineyard business or nonprofit is open over the winter, we'd love to hear from you: Post a note in our Business Updates board and let us know what you're up to. Maybe you have some daily specials to share:

4. Thursday's special at Menemsha Fish Market is 25 percent off storewide on everything except for apparel. The market at 54 Basin Rd. in Chilmark is open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily except for Sunday, when it's open from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., and possibly some Wednesdays. The number's 508-645-2282: Just give a call before you drive out there.

5. Do you receive the daily Martha's Vineyard Patch newsletter and breaking news alerts? If not, please sign up here. It's free and brings you all our latest posts so you can keep in touch with what's happening on the Vineyard 365 days a year.
