Free Hot Chocolate, Film Casting Call, Middle School Dance

Five fun things to do on the Island this Friday the 13th of December, 2013.

1. Jinx remover: Friday the 13th unlucky? Not when you can stop by the Oak Bluffs Public Library and grab a cup of gourmet hot chocolate to celebrate National Hot Chocolate Day! 10 a.m., free.

2. Casting call: DAY 90 Film Production is calling all actors and non-actors (ages 18-35) to become background actors for a film about a local mom's struggle for sobriety. Filming will take place Friday and Saturday in West Tisbury from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. Interested parties should contact the DAY 90 Producer Melanie Ramos at day90themovie@gmail.com.

3. Swim Race: "Cheer on all of our competitive swimmers in this fun and spirited racing event!" posts the YMCA of MV. Bonito's Race Night starts at 4 p.m. at the Y, 111R Edgartown-Vineyard Haven Rd., Oak Bluffs.

4. Open House: Hospice of Martha’s Vineyard presents Handmade from the Heart again this Christmas season, hosting an open house evening with the Martha's Vineyard Preservation Trust at the Dr. Daniel Fisher House in Edgartown to toast the holidays from 4:30 to 7:30 with champagne and treats. $20, kids $5, all proceeds to benefit the services Hospice provides for free.

5. Youth Dance: All 6th-8th graders are welcome to join in the fun at Alex's Place $5, 7 p.m. at the YMCA of MV.
