Weekend Planner: February 4 - 5

A Black History Month breakfast, the last Makos home meet, a peace rally, Super Bowl lobster rolls and much more all happening this weekend

 

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 4th

Black History Month Breakfast Program

The League of Women Voters is hosting a Black History Month Breakfast Program at the Howes House in West Tisbury. Keynote speaker will be Natalie Dickerson, former president of the MV NAACP. 9 am. For more information, call 508-693-7914.

Sculptures That Fly

This weekend’s Saturday Art Adventure at Featherstone presents Sculptures That Fly for children ages 3-8 with Lani Carney. From 9 am to noon. $45. For more information, call 508-693-1850 or visit featherstoneart.org.

Saturday Squirrels & Coyotes

Sassafras Earth Education: Saturday Squirrels and Coyotes will meet at the Head of the Pond (aka Red Beach) in Aquinnah at 10am.  Explore the pond, look for otter tracks, sneak up on ducks and perhaps gather some yummies. Bring a backpack (not a grocery bag) with your lunch and water. Dress warm to be outside all day with hat, gloves and waterproof boots. Directions from Chilmark, cross Aquinnah town line, take a right on Lobsterville Rd, stay on the main road and keep to your right twice, the road will end at the pond parking lot.

Clifford the Big Red Dog

Clifford the Big Red Dog will visit the Oak Bluffs Library at 10:30 am and the Edgartown Library at 3:30 pm. Sponsored by Martha’s Vineyard Library Association’s Children’s Librarians. For more information, call 508-645-3360.

Peace Rally

Makos Feeding Frenzy Pasta Dinner

Come to the YMCA and enjoy a delicious meal lovingly prepared by Tea Lane Caterers and served by the Makos themselves!  $15 for individual tickets.  $45 for a family ticket.  Tickets sold in advance at the Y Member Service Desk and at the door night of the event.  Tickets must be presented to attend the dinner. MVFF Winter Film Series Dinner and Movies

The Martha’s Vineyard Film Festival presents the last night of their Winter Film Series at the Chilmark Community Center. Come at 5:00 for music, face painting, and a kid-friendly dinner made with fresh local ingredients. Kids Films start at 5:30 and are free for members, $5 for non-members. Dinner made by Beetlebung Farm's Chris Fischer starts at 6:30 and live music will be played by  Gregg Harcourt & Mary Wolverton. Help MVFF go green by bringing your own plates, cups, and utensils. $5 Kids, $10 Adults. The feature film, The Island President, starts at 7:30 pm. $6 for members, $12 for non-members

Farm Junior Discovery Program

Island Alpaca holds their Farm Junior Discovery Program from 9:30 am -11 am for children ages 8 and up. Children under 8 are welcome with parent or guardian. Limited space available and pre-registration is required. For more information, call 508-693-5554 or register online at islandalpaca.com.

Makos Home Swim Meet

From Picture to Painting

Super Bowl Lobster Rolls

Grace Church in Vineyard Haven will be serving Super Bowl Lobster Rolls from 11:30 am - 1:30 pm. Get a roll, chips, and beverage for $15, a hot dog for $3 and slice of pie for $4. Land Bank Walk

Land Bank staff will lead a guided walk at Waskosim’s Rock Reservation in West Tisbury and Chilmark. The walk will start at 1 pm and last approximately 1.5 hours. Dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes or boots. Rain or shine. For more information, call 508-627-7141.

Opera on Sundays

Sunday Projects at the Farm Institute

Adults and children 8 and over are welcome to take part in Sunday Projects at the FARM Institute. Projects may include giving animals new bedding, moving and stacking hay, organizing garden sheds, mucking stalls or moving livestock fencing. 1 pm - 2 pm. For more information, call 508-627-7007.

Sunday with Friends: Andrea Rogers

As part of the Sunday with Friends series, Andrea Rogers, founder of the Vineyard Artisans Festival, will speak at 2 pm at the Vineyard Haven Library. Rogers will discuss the history and highlights of the festival. Refreshments will be served. For more information, call 508-696-4211.

Super Bowl Party

Starting at 4 pm, Season's Restaurant & Pub in Oak Bluffs will host a Super Bowl Party. Enjoy the big game and a free half-time buffet. For more information, call 508-693-7129.
