Wall Street Financier Arrested for Shoplifting From Island Stores
Hedge fund manager allegedly stole from two Island boutiques before getting arrested on her way off Island
On Thursday, August 30, police arrested Joelle F. O'Reilly-Hyland (also known as Joelle Wyser-Pratte), of Bedford Hills, New York, as she and her family made their way to the 9:30 pm ferry to Woods Hole. The charge - larceny of goods valued at more than $250 and wanton destruction of property according to the Martha’s Vineyard Times.
O’Reilly- Hyland, a hedge fund manager and co-founder of investment firms Ounavarra Capital LLC and Minerva Capital Management Ltd., was “responsible for the theft of an expensive cashmere sweater” from Pandora’s Box in Menemsha and a necklace and an embroidered shirt from the Green Room in Vineyard Haven.
The Times reported that O’Reilly-Hyland was found out when she appeared in the Green Room wearing the sweater she stole from Pandora’s Box. Apparently, Belinda Ritchie, manager of the Green Room, is friends with Carla Felter, manager of Pandora's Box and recognized the sweater as being identical to one she knew had been stolen from Pandora’s Box. While in the Green Room, O'Reilly-Hyland also reportedly stole a shirt and necklace.
“Police learned from store employees that the family planned to leave on the 9:30 pm ferry that evening,” reported the Times.
Chilmark Chief Cioffi, Chilmark Officer Elizabeth Elwell and Tisbury Officer Scott Ogden met the family at the ferry terminal where O’Reilly-Hyland was reportedly still wearing the sweater. O’Reilly-Hyland allegedly admitted to the theft and was taken to the Dukes County Jail and released on $300 bail.
According to the Times, Chief Cioffi witnessed O’Reilly-Hyland’s arraignment on Friday morning however, that arraignment was expunged from the court record. “Chief Cioffi learned that the arraignment had been stricken from the record so that it could be rescheduled to September 24.”

Dear Lady Martha has a heart of gold but me thinks this Wall Street Financier she speaks of has a heart of mold as well as a "deep, empty hole somewhere" IN HER HEAD!!! I have (almost) zero empathy for Joelle F. O'Reilly-Hyland (also known as Joelle Wyser-Pratte), of Bedford Hills, New York. She has been blessed as a beautiful, successful, black woman whose actions are that of an amoral, spoiled brat and who knowingly epitomizes the evil of greed in our society. I highly doubt this was her first (or last) time shoplifting; so I think it's of the upmost importance that all of her present and future business associates, clients (er, victims) and clothing stores everywhere be made aware of her true character and lack of integrity (Hello, New York Times?). Let's not give her the victim card and enable her to continue being a hypocritical thief and poor-sport. Throw her outa the game indefinitely - she's a cheetah...

Absolutely. Cheryl, I apologize for seeming so shrill but on the heels of both conventions, I grew weary of misinformation being bandied about and people just accepting the information as gospel when it is completely incorrect. You are indeed a rare breed. I only WISH that you were a politician. I don't know what it is that you do but whoever you do it with is lucky to have you as a partner.

If Joelle was "Wyser" she wouldn't have worn that stolen sweater out in public, but will now be called a "Pratte" because of her own stupidity. She might be scared straight out of her "silver-spoon-in-mouth" greediness by spending a few days sitting on her "Pratte" in jail!

She did the crime, so let her do the time. Do not let her get off with some little fine and a return trip to Wall Street. She admitted that she did it, she was ready to "skip town" when they nabbed her at the dock, she does not need to be locked up, but she should be publicly humiliated. Poor little rich girl.
How about 40 hours of community service in an orange jumpsuit picking up trash?
Make her wash out the cans and bottles, and donate the deposit nickels to her charity in India. I will match those funds.
